Penny (1c)
Lincoln Memorial (1959-2008), Shield (2010+). Copper-plated zinc since 1982.
Nickel (5c)
Jefferson Nickel (1938+). 75% copper, 25% nickel. War nickels (1942-45) contain 35% silver.
Dime (10c)
Roosevelt Dime (1946+). 90% silver before 1965, copper-nickel clad after.
Quarter (25c)
Washington Quarter (1932+). State quarters (1999-2008), America the Beautiful (2010-2021), American Women (2022-2025).
Half Dollar (50c)
Kennedy Half (1964+). 90% silver in 1964, 40% silver 1965-70, clad after.

Eisenhower (1971-78), Susan B. Anthony (1979-99), Sacagawea (2000+), Presidential (2007-16).

MS-65 to MS-70
Gem to Perfect Uncirculated. No wear, full luster. Significant premiums.
MS-60 to MS-64
Uncirculated. No wear but may have bag marks or blemishes.
AU-50 to AU-58
About Uncirculated. Slight wear on high points, most luster remains.
EF/XF-40 to EF-45
Extremely Fine. Light wear on high points, all design details sharp.
VF-20 to VF-35
Very Fine. Moderate wear, major features clear.
G-4 to VG-10
Good to Very Good. Heavy wear, outline visible, major details worn smooth.
M Mint Marks
P — Philadelphia
Main US Mint. Often no mint mark (especially pre-1980).
D — Denver
Second largest mint. D mint mark since 1906.
S — San Francisco
Proof coins and special strikes. Historically for circulation too.
W — West Point
Commemoratives, bullion, and special editions. Premium collector coins.

Lighting
Use even, diffused light. Avoid glare and harsh shadows. Natural daylight works best.
Focus
Hold camera 4-6 inches from coin. Tap to focus on the date area. Use macro mode if available.
Background
Place coin on a dark, non-reflective surface. Avoid busy patterns or shiny backgrounds.
